New Spirit Ju Jitsu Tournament 2001

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)The second New Spirit Ju Jitsu Tournament was held at 12:00 on Sunday 20th May 2001 at Pilsley Miners Welfare. Following the success of last years event it was even better attended, with more than double the number of entries. The first four in each class received a certificate, with the top three also receiving medals. The winners will be presented with trophies later in the year, at the Christmas Party and Presentation.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)All the competitors preformed impeccably, the event seemed to spur them on to greater performances, and we had some really exciting matches.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)The sparring matches were refereed by Ged Ramsdale 3rd Dan and Nigel Goodwin 1st Dan,  with Paul King 1st Dan taking over when our own children were involved. A panel of three judges scored the Ju Jitsu event, and also decided the outcome of any drawn bouts. The judges were Bob Cope, Gary Hibbert, and Colin Beck. The Ground Fighting was refereed by Ged Ramsdale.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)This year a new fourth event was added, Ken Jutsu, and this was refereed by Darren Ramsdale 3rd Dan, and Mark Rigby 4th Dan.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)We were particularly pleased to have observers from Bushi Kempo Ju Jitsu, and The World Ju Jitsu Federation, forging links with other groups can only benefit all concerned.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)I took about one and a half hours of video footage, for the sole purpose of capturing still pictures from it, I've sorted these into three different categories, Ju Jitsu, Ken Jutsu, and Ground Fighting. Unfortunately I was unable to get any Sparring footage as I was refereeing during that event. I hope to get some footage from other people who were also videoing the tournament.

dot_clear.gif (43 bytes)The footage was recorded using a Sony CCD-TR501E Video8 Camcorder and transferred to the computer using a Pinnacle Studio PCTV Rave capture card, and suitable still frames captured using the Studio PCTV software. The resulting pictures have been shrunk to 192x144 pixels, to sharpen them, and to reduce their file sizes - the average size is about 12Kb. In order to reduce loading times I've split the larger pages into multiple sections, the earlier bouts are the lower numbered sections.
